Have You Written Your Success Story?
I’m sure you have read a lot of network marketing success stories and you have been wowed by what these people have achieved.
From being a simple average earner employee, they have become millionaires working in the comfort of their homes. And then you think to yourself, It sounds so easy I can do that. Then you start duplicating what these
people have done. You would seem to be succeeding at first, but after a while you notice that your copied method is not sustaining your business. So, you ask yourself why? What did you do wrong?
You are smart, intelligent, may even have a degree, but still did not make it? Does this mean that other people who do not even have masters or Phd’s, or have not even graduated from college, are better than you?
One of your friends may be just a happy-go-lucky lady, who likes to party with friends and have never taken any business seriously and yet is earning six figures a month.
A mother of two may have just started with her fellow PTA members and now has networks of hundreds of downlines, whom she manages at home.
A man with no job at all may have begun with handing out brochures and leaflets on street corners and now drives his own car. So you wonder why you, a college graduate, a master or Phd holder, can’t seem to do it right? Something must be wrong. Well, there is nothing wrong. You are simply not doing the right thing for you.
The Success Stories that we hear make it all sound easy and fail-safe. The truth is, it is not. Actually, it is not about the perfect style or method. It is about what is the strategy that would work perfectly for you. You see, what works effectively for others does not necessarily mean that it will work as effectively for you.
It is about finding the right or perfect method for you it is about compatibility. Every individual has his or her unique sets of values and attitudes that make up his or her personality. And every individual is different you are unique. You have to find the type of business and the kind of marketing methods and strategy to promote your business that work best for you.
Your happy-go-lucky friend is fun to be with and loved by her friends and even people who have just met her. She is a natural when it comes to winning friends trust just by being her vivacious self. The mother of two is a caring friend who shows genuine concern for the other parents at the PTA and truly wants to help them out. Other people can see that in her so she wins their confidence and trust. The man with no job has nothing much to lose and everything to gain.
He’s not embarrassed to be standing there on the streets, handing out brochures with a genuine smile on his face. What am I saying here is ask yourself, what are you willing to do for your business? Think of something that you truly love doing and everything else would follow.

Great article … I think one of the biggest challenges in terms of motivational stories is that too few are told. What I mean by that is there are many, many smaller equally inspiring stories – but no one ever hears about them. There are ways to collect and such stories, but most people are too busy to bother – it’s like creating a company culture on a team level … it takes effort and it doesn’t happen over night.

Hey Barbara,
Great post. You are right, whilst being successful does need an element of duplication. We also to have to ensure that the way in which we duplicate is the right method for us.
So if we are funny, use our humour to network, if we are carers, use our caring nature to sponsor and help people, if we are sales people then do your sales thing.
The first trick is finding out what works best for us. We can normally do that by trying a few techniques and just getting an idea about how that makes us feel.
If we feel on edge, squeemish and untrue to ourselves, then you can properly say that we are not doing it in the right way for us.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I am sure a lot of people will have a light bulb moment working out that they don’t always have to network and sponsor in the same way as they have been taught by their upline.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Barbara,
I enjoyed your article! Sometimes not being successful is because we are lacking in one or more of the areas of 1) Mindset; 2) Skillset; and/or 3) Toolset. Then finding the strategy that would work for each individual is key. Some people have these skills naturally while others struggle and have to develop them. This all takes time, but we can all achieve success.
Thank you! Linda

I totally agree that you have to find what works for you and create your own story from that. If you try to build a business based on what others are doing but those things don’t feel right for you, it just doesn’t work. You will end up struggling and probably drop out.

Barbara,
One of my previous uplines wanted to create a culture in his downline telling us this is how it’s done and don’t vary from it. I was not comfortable with everything that was offered and began to drift away. Everyone must find their own best means to promote their business, product and service. One size does not fit all in anything we do.
Thanks for the post. It’s good to know there are people out there who understand this business and can share from their heart.

Barbara, I love the title of your article. It reminds me of a great activity I assigned to my English students a few weeks ago. First, I asked them if they’d heard the expression: “You are what you think about.” Unfortunately, most of them had not. Next, I asked them to write about what they were thinking. Unfortunately [again] most of the students responded too quickly WITHOUT thinking about the topic — with the exception of a few.
So I read aloud the select few who “got it” and then asked them all to try again. What I then got to read were some amazing essays. One day soon I’m going to blog the details of this story. My sense is that it made a huge impact on some of the students who will now “be able to write their own success stories.”

Barbara,
You hear all the time duplication, duplication, but you are right. People are different and each person needs to find what works for them.
I used to think that something was wrong with me too. Thanks for putting this out there.

The new information age is totally different than a traditional business but there are so many advantages for people that get started right. So many people come in already knowing tons of business minded people and recruit them in a day. Knowing lots of business minded people looking to make extra money is so helpful when starting a new business but it doesn’t mean their better. They may just know more people but either way they still have to keep up with competition or loose everything. Especially in the information age. Being an honest person can keep it going but I think they need fulltime education to find the strategies that work for their team and keep their team from recycling new team members. I think success is not how many you’re getting in the business but what you can do for them while keeping it a win win for everybody involved. Some people just have to work harder I guess. I like where you mentioned that other peoples strategies may work for them may not work for you. People have got to get the right information and I’m sure you’re on the way up to new levels with such a good post. Keep up the great online education!

Great topic you picked here, Barbara… Often, especially in the showbiz and music industry it happens, that overnight stars appear and people start to envey their success. But what stays unearthed is the fact that these people often had to endure a long way till the great breakthrough came. Yes, these people were able to give everything to stand thee where the belong to… It’s totally up to us to make it happen… Like your writting Barbara and the choice of the pictures.
All the best,
Alex
Hi Barbara,
Excellent advice here!
We should do what we are passionate about and shine in the areas we are good at. We certainly can get out of our comfort zone and learn new things, but if you’re miserable when doing it, is it really worth it? That’s why a team that has different strengths and weaknesses is so valuable.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Barbara ~ Those are, in fact, many of the things I have asked myself as I traverse this network marketing field. I have a mentor who has tried to get me to do marketing and social media just as she is doing. And it seems to work fine for her. But alas I don’t have the same results. But all is not lost. While listening to a series of webinars I finally heard and saw a presentation that i think I can replicate. Oddly enough I came to the conclusion that I must find something that resonates with me because I know that just because something works for someone else it won’t necessarily work for me. We are different people so one of the old cliche’s is apt here: Different strokes for different folks eh?
