Are You In A Recession??

Maxwells Attic

I’m sure in the present economic climate there will be more than a few people dreading this year of 2012. The recession has seen the closure of many companies and thousands of families have seen their source of income diminish

Not surprisingly people are worried. In fact, statistics have revealed most people spend an average of 2hrs 15 minutes every day fretting, which amounts to 34 days every year worrying. Quite how they got those statistics is beyond me especially as 40% of people don’t even tell anyone they’re worrying.

However, at the beginning of 2010 people were most concerned about knife crime, global warming and buying a property. Now, at the beginning of 2012, the top six concerns relate to finance – or rather, lack of finance.

If you’ve never heard the expression “A problem shared is a problem halved”, I recommend you take note now and if you find yourself worried about something but feel you can’t admit it to your nearest and dearest, please find some other person to talk to. Bottling up problems just makes them so much worse.

Notably this year, the January sales have lasted longer and been more generous than usual and I did  visit the shops over the Holiday season.

I was amazed how few people were around and the amount of shops, which had “Closing Down”, signs on display. Many had already closed! I  wanted to buy a coat but couldn’t find one I liked in my size. After trailing around looking at every  department store open, I was told  to order on-line.

(Great, I thought – now they tell me!)

I must admit I was surprised, although I shouldn’t have been. Apparently on Christmas Day, more people logged on to the internet to  buy in the sales than go  to Church!

That statistic alone tells us something though, and that is the Internet is the way to go. Cash flows on the Internet – the secret is to position yourself so it flows in your direction, and it has seen the rise of many “mom and pop“, and home based business opportunities.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned since being online, I think, is to form relationships. There’s no doubt people like to buy from people, especially those they perceive as knowing what they’re talking about. I know in the past I’ve waited patiently for a specific shop assistant to serve me rather than go to their available fellow worker, simply because they were friendly, approachable and helpful.

What applies offline also applies to online businesses and one of the best ways to connect with customers is through Social Media  and Video. It is no longer enough to be a faceless entity. People want to know who they are dealing with. They want the personal touch.

Of course to promote your offer properly you need the right  ” internet tool box” , and no matter what business you are in they need not be expensive. You just need to know where to find them and how to use them.

It’s particularly beneficial and economical if you can get them all under one roof,  because it saves so much time, and also because it saves having to remember so many different logins and passwords.

When you give value to your customers they come back for more and recommend you to others. Those who apply those principles often find themselves saying, “Recession – what Recession?”

There’s prosperity on the web if only you know how to get it.

It’s Your Season As A Babyboomer

PageLines CMS WordPress Themes

What do the following terms have in common?

Baby Boomer Entrepreneur, Generation X Entrepreneur, Mid-Life Entrepreneur, MidPreneur.

Yes, many new entrepreneurs begin and develop a small business in mid-life, and at the same time can become extremely successful.

Are you a baby boomer?

If you were born between 1946 and 1954 you are a part of this diverse group regarded as baby boomers or Generation X spanning a whopping 19 years.

It may be that you are a grandparent, just starting your family, or still dealing with children at school whilst at the same time still caring for the generation before you.

Your work situation could include being the head of a multinational corporation to enjoying the wonderful relationships being the matriarch of your family. Perhaps you are somewhere in between.

Whatever your situation, be aware that you are not getting any younger, and as they say, life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it, and it is important that you ask yourself the following questions.

“Am I making the best of this exciting chapter of my life? Am I doing what I need to do to actually live my dreams?”

If you are not feeling fulfilled, always wonder if there is something more you could do or give, or perhaps know you have a passion that is yet to be explored, now is the time to have a look at what options are available to you. And believe me, there are many. Explore avenues such as setting up a small business, writing the book you always dreamed of, travelling to exotic countries, moving to the country, sailing around the Greek Islands or even learning to dance.

It could be that you doubt your financial position is strong enough to see you achieve these dreams, and you may wonder if your retirement plan will allow you to live the long, healthy life you desire.

The simple solution is to join the growing group of gutsy, faithful, hard working and loving women who, by their very nature are hard working and have the ability to multi task and become a baby boomer woman entrepreneur.

So many tools and resources are available today to make this journey to success faster, easier, less stressful and more rewarding. Accelerate your path to success by not attempting to re-invent the wheel. Others have been there before and know the ups and downs, pitfalls and successes. Just like the yellow brick road, follow the experts, use their roadmaps as your guide and you too can live the life of your dreams.

Were you aware that the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs are aged 60 and beyond? Instead of wondering if they are too old, these mid-lifers combine the strength of their wisdom and expertise and self confidence to take them where they want to go. These older entrepreneurs have an advantage over younger entrepreneurs due to more experiences and resources from which to draw and more assests with which to finance a business.

More importantly, baby boomer or mid-life entrepreneurs is not kept to the males in our world. In fact, entrepreneurship is gender neutral, with women-owned businesses doubling over the last 25 years, with their revenues rising five-fold. Recent statistics show that woman start businesses at two times the rate of men.

Imagine being able to finally follow your dream. It could be to own your own business, write a book, earn a few extra thousand dollars each month, or set yourself up for your eventual retirement.

Don’t sit on the fence, or take your retirement sitting down. This is the best chapter of your life and so make the decision to do something that will bring the joy, happiness and success that is your birthright.

From one baby boomer entrepreneur to another midlife entrepreneur, generation x entrepreneur or midpreneur, now is the time to take action and enjoy the results.
I made the choice and so can you.
